Caption Reads:
Raspberry Island Lighthouse
Built in 1863, Raspberry was the second light
put into operation in the Apostle Islands.
The lightkeeper’s house, originally built for one
family, was modified in 1906 into a triplex to
accommodate the lightkeeper and two assist-
ants. The light tower is 46 feet high.
The original Fresnel lens was removed and is
in the Madeline Island Museum. Raspberry’s
present automated light marks the west channel
of the Apostles. Visitors by way of the island
ferry can tour the restored lighthouse and enjoy
the beautiful landscaping, which includes color-
ful flower gardens. Tour guides are attired
in authentic 1920s costume to give a realistic
glimpse of life at the lighthouse in years gone by.
Nature lovers can take the half mile hike to the
scenic sand point at the southeast end of the island.
